New York City
In 2015, America’s beverage companies began working with stores, restaurants and local partners in communities in New York. It’s all part of the Balance Calories Initiative, a partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to reduce beverage calories consumed per person 20% by 2025 across the nation. We’re rolling out our efforts to communities that face greater challenges to reducing their sugar intake, such as higher obesity rates and less access to lower-sugar beverage options. Specifically, we’re focusing on the South Bronx, and the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Stuyvesant and Crown Heights. Our efforts behind building more balanced communities include:
- working with retailers to display and offer reduced-calorie beverages.
- offering in-store samples and other incentives to try new beverages.
- partnering with community organizations to educate families about this new initiative.
- implementing messaging to increase calorie awareness.
